The Bougainvillea garden in Chandigarh was set up in 1976. This marvelous garden is situated in Sector-3 and displays above 50 types of Bougainvillea flora. The total area of this garden is 20 acres and it gives shelter to a vast variety of Bougainvilleas of diverse shapes such as- pavilions, arcades, arch and a bunch of bowers. 

These prickly shrubs are perfect for making “Bonsai”. The Bougainvillea festival is celebrated here once every year and lots of visitors come during this time. The garden also comprises planned fitness tracks which are perfect for morning walks and work outs.

Pinjore Garden:

Pinjore Gardens in Chandigarh

The Pinjore garden in Chandigarh is extended over an area of 100 acres. This garden is nestled in the suburbs of Chandigarh. This famous picnic spot of Chandigarh is also popular as “Yadavindra Gardens”.  It is believed that this was the dwelling of “Pandavas” during their exile period. Due to this reason, this place has a mythological value as well. The Pinjore garden also houses a Japanese garden, a mini zoo, numerous attractive lawns and a stunning nursery.

Visitors can also take pleasure in the illuminated fountains during evenings. The sliding terraces at the place also leave an extraordinary effect on the spectators. From April to June the garden is bedecked in a festive ambiance because this is the time for the “Annual Mango Festival” and the “Baisakhi Festival”.

The Mango festival exhibits a vast variety of mangoes by Agricultural universities and the celebrations and joviality during this time brings thousands of visitors to this garden every year.

Zakir Hussain Rose Garden:

It is a stunning garden which is the main attraction for “Rose” lovers. Tourists can enjoy the beauty and fragrance of above 1600 rose varieties which beautify this garden. The garden not only contains beautiful roses, but it also has a variety of therapeutic shrubs and trees. 

The place has several benches as well as trails for work outs. There is no entry fee and the tourists can buy food from the stalls located inside the garden. There is a festival which is celebrated every year in the Rose garden. This festival offers a grand exhibition and beautification of flowers, good food, dance and gifts for the winners.

The lush green area of the garden is watered by a natural stream, which divides Shanti Kunj into 5 separate sections which contain different varieties of plants. Tourists can take pleasure in the tranquility of the garden amid the vibrant and lovely flowers.

Botanical Gardens:

This garden enthralls the tourists with its broad extension of beautiful array of plants. There are 2 botanical gardens- One is situated between the Rock garden and Sukhna lake and the other one is located within the campus of Punjab University.

The garden placed within the Punjab University’s campus houses a vast variety of plant species set in a systematic manner. One side of this garden is adorned with cactus and other succulent plants whereas the other side consists of evergreen and exotic plants. This pretty garden also houses sparkling lotus blooms.

Another Botanical garden, which lies between the Rock garden and Sukhna lake is extended over 88 acres of area. This place houses small Lilies and extraordinary species of plants.

International Dolls Museum in Chandigarh:

This renowned doll museum was set up in 1985 and possesses gorgeous dolls which have been gathered from different parts of the world. Originally, the doll museum was opened to offer recreation to kids but it has gradually flourished and earned recognition and now it is has become famous all over the world. Marionettes and dolls from various countries like Russia, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Korea and Netherlands etc. enhance the beauty of this museum. Sukhna Lake:

This stunning lake lies on the foothills of Shivalik hills. It is an artificial lake which was created in 1958. The length of this lake is approximately 3 Km. The name Sukhna is derived from a stream named “Sukhna Choe” which was confined and produced the Sukhna lake.  It is a serene place with picturesque waterside with a lot of birds chirping in the background. Here the tourists can enjoy a lot of water sports such as-water skiing, boating, yachting etc. It is a perfect hang out spot for the residents of Chandigarh. The lake is also a preferred picnic spot for the locals.  

Entry fee: Sukhna Lake boating price is INR 100 for four people and for two, it is INR 50.

Fun city is an eminent amusement park in Chandigarh. The place is famous for offering games for almost any age group. It boasts of many excellent water games and hi-tech hydraulic games. Fun city is located at a distance of 20 Km from Chandigarh; however you will find it worthwhile to spend your day here by taking pleasure in the beautiful views and the water rides. The park also houses a 5D cinema theatre which is an amazing experience for the spectators.

Leisure Valley:

Leisure valley is a must-visit in Chandigarh and is one of the most appealing tourist spots of the city. It is a chain of exceptional and attractive gardens which mesmerize the tourists with its miraculous charm. It is a stretch of many gardens starting from the Sector 1 Rajendra Park which extends around 8 Km and includes a lot of gardens and parks such as- Shanti Kunj, Hibiscus garden, Rose garden, Garden of fragrance and the Bougainvillea garden. There is a 3 day long festival which is celebrated every year in February in the Leisure valley. It is a festival which is not only popular in India, but also attracts a lot of tourists all over the world.

Garden of Fragrance:

The Garden of fragrance in Chandigarh will steal your hearts with its huge assortment of aromatic and fresh plants and trees. It is considered to be one among the 3 main gardens of the city. The place is located in Sector 36 South of the renowned Hibiscus garden. It is a popular picnic spot of Chandigarh and is filled with the locals in the mornings as well as evenings. The place is usually not jam-packed all the time and this benefits the tourists to savor the place peacefully anytime they want to.

Butterfly Park in Chandigarh:

Located in Sector 26 of the Chandigarh city, the Butterfly Park offers extensive care to butterflies expanded over a broad area of approximately 7 acres. The park also houses a variety of trees and plants which make the tourists feel relaxed and get pleasure from the gorgeous and vibrant butterflies. Butterflies need flowers and this park contains numerous plants which are adorned with flowers like- salvia, marigold, dahlia, petunia etc.  

Government Museum and Art Gallery:

This is one of the most well-known museums of India which was established in 1968. It is located in the heart of the city and has an extensive campus. This popular museum of Chandigarh possesses an exclusive collection of paintings, art objects and sculptures like small paintings from Rajasthan, Pahari and Gandharan statues. 

This famous museum owns majority of its displays from the time of partition of India i.e in the year 1948, when half of the things were carried from Lahore and brought into this museum. It has 4 main departments - the national history museum, art gallery, Chandigarh architecture museum and the national gallery of portraits.

Nek Chand’s Rock Garden:

This renowned garden of Chandigarh has been one of the most architecturally acclaimed places of India. This garden is bedecked with statues and other kind of art objects which are composed of domestic and industrial waste. This magnificent garden was constructed in 1957 by Nek Chand. 

The construction of Rock garden resembles a maze with many interlinked courtyards made of various sculptures and objects. The exceptional architect of Rock garden mesmerizes the spectators and people are surprised by the fact that wastes can produce such a fascinating beauty.
