Chandigarh Literati FestivalA great book in hand to read is a great way to relax and refresh oneself. Many of us love reading books, and what better way to know the recent books that have been launched by authors from all over the country than by attending a Literature festival? "The Fort of Chandi" or the city Chandigarh which is always bursting with activities and events and has a lot to offer to everyone had come up with one such event for all the book lovers in 2013, known as the 'Literati 2013'.
It was organized by the Chandigarh Literary Society with the support of Haryana Tourism and Chandigarh Administration. It lasted for 2 days in the month of November. The promotion of Literary arts was the idea behind setting up of the x which was founded in the year 2012.
Writers with great thinking and a flair for writing world class books from different regions were promoted in this event and made available to the public. Many bestselling authors of various genres participated in the events. The festival that was organized near the banks of Sukhna Lake promoted nonfiction and fiction writers, haiku, poetry, vernacular writers in various regional languages like Hindi, Punjabi etc as well as the English language.
More than 36 authors from all over the country participated in the event and it was an interactive session between the audience and the authors. Right from the literary sessions, the ambiance, the locale, and the arrangements, everything was so perfect that it was hard to believe that this is the first attempt of the CLS to organize such an event.
The two days of the event saw a wide array of programs in which everyone participated enthusiastically. The audience soaked in the performance given by the specially commissioned artists and also the various discussions and debates that took place amongst the literature lovers. Many interesting sessions were held and the topics that were discussed in such sessions were 'Religion and Politics: Oxygen or Position?', 'Exotica is the New Erotica', 'Women and the Paradox of the Modernity', 'The Four Letter Words: All between Love & Hate' etc to name a few. During Literati, several book launches of budding and famous authors were also organized. Competions in the form of poetry and short story writing were held amongst those present.
The beautiful lawn of the Lake Club was decorated to represent a literary village and photographs, paintings, bookstalls, handicrafts display were seen. Food stalls and coffee corners were also set up to encourage conversation over coffee and snacks around literature with the audience and the authors present there.
Chandigarh, with its diverse culture and people, made the 2013 Chandigarh Literati Festival a beautiful experience. There was a lot of participation from the audience and it was evident that they appreciated this initiative to host the event there. With the grand success of 'Literati 2013' , Sumita Misra the chairperson of Chandigarh Literary Society has promised 'Literati 2014' to be a much better and bigger event with leading authors, spirited discussions, mellifluous poetry reading, launching of books and various other add-on features.
